Primary

Primary

Primary builds on the curiosity and confidence developed in the Early Years. At Thinkers’ Valley, we create a challenging yet supportive environment where children deepen their knowledge, develop new skills and become increasingly independent learners. As they progress through Primary, they are encouraged to question, investigate, solve problems, think critically and creatively, and make meaningful connections across their learning.

Programme of study

Our Cambridge Primary curriculum provides clear progression and academic rigour across English, Mathematics, Science, Computing, Digital Literacy, Humanities, Global Perspectives, Art and Design, Music, Physical Education and Wellbeing.

Core knowledge and skills are taught explicitly and systematically, while children are given opportunities to apply what they learn through practical experiences, projects, discussion and inquiry. Learning is connected across subjects and to the world around them.

Nurturing growth

Teachers provide the structure, expertise and challenge children need while giving them increasing ownership of their learning. Questions lead to investigation; projects bring subjects together; practical experiences help children see how knowledge can be used beyond the classroom.

As children move through Primary, they develop greater confidence and independence. They learn to organise themselves, manage their time, persevere through challenge, collaborate with others and take increasing responsibility for their choices and learning.

Assessment

Assessment helps us understand where each child is in their learning and what they need next. Teachers draw on observation, questioning, classwork, projects, feedback and formal assessment to build a clear picture of progress.

Feedback helps children recognise their strengths, respond to challenge and improve their work. As they grow, they become increasingly aware of how they learn best and take greater responsibility for their own progress.

By the end of Primary, children should have strong academic foundations alongside the confidence, curiosity and independence to approach the next stage of their education with purpose and a genuine appetite to learn.
